The Queen Waited Until Death
At one stage, many people felt that the Queen should step down and hand over to Prince Charles. However, that didn’t happen. So, he only became the monarch after Queen Elizabeth died in 2022.
Four years before that, the public might have been in a different mood. Actually, not everyone welcomes Charles as the monarch. But, back in 2018, the futures of Charles, William, Harry and Meghan would have been very different, that’s for certain.
Charles Starts His Reign Earlier
If, back in 2018, King Charles took over, then he’d probably have enjoyed the availability of more energy. Frail as he seems these days, he retained good health in 2018. Furthermore, he felt eager and determined to implement his own ideas.

Remember, his stance on global warming and eco-friendly community projects would have been carried out much quicker. Not everyone agrees with global warming, but his objectives might have sped up.
Before Queen Elizabeth died, many folks felt sorry for her eldest son, who exercised a lot of patience awaiting is time on the throne. So, the royal family might have found more robust support from the public.
Obviously, he wouldn’t have waited until he was in his 70s. Additionally, the long tease that prepared the way for royal disappointment would have been avoided. In addition, he would have ascended the throne before a period of economic downturn started.
Harry and Meghan

Meghan Markle became a member of the royal family only in 2018. So, her first months would have been under the reign of a new king. To be honest, that potentially, could have changed their whole story.
After all, the start of a new reign usually wipes the slate clean. Harry and Meghan might have encountered less comparison with the previous protocols. Plus, the younger monarch and Prince William might have found more common ground in their working relationship.
Some commentators felt that a new king in 2018 might have helped relieve the Sussex couple of at least some pressure. Of course, that’s not to say Harry and Meghan wouldn’t have left. But possibly, it could have happened in a more positive way.
William Takes Over A Key Role Much Earlier
If King Charles took over the throne in 2018, William would have had the title of Prince of Wales for six more years. Definitely, that extra time would have helped him to accustom himself to the role before public scrutiny intensified. Probably, with more experience, he might have faced the scandal of Andrew as a senior royal more decisively, a lot sooner.
Probably, the firm’s public image would have improved as Princess Catherine had more time to ease into her role of queen of the future. Notably, their joint goals with PR could have happened long before the queen’s health deteriorated.
Crisis & Scandals
Each royal crisis hits different monarchs in different ways. Who can tell now, if it had been King Charles in charge and not Queen Elizabeth? With Charles as king, would Prince Andrew’s issues escalate as badly as current status quo?
Back then, many royal family fans believed that Elizabeth shielded Andrew. But, Charles might have found a way to quietly reset the situation.
Anyone can speculate about what kind of reception the royal family would have gotten from supporters seven years ago. But, it’s possible William’s current crackdown on wayward royals could have happened a lot sooner.
Royal Family Modernized
If things were different now, possibly, the public would have a better opinion of King Charles given his longer term on the throne.
Meanwhile, William would be very experienced in a senior role for longer. And, that might have helped his transition as the future monarch. As for the Commonwealth, it might seem more stable today if change took place earlier.
While people can only imagine how different things could be, nevertheless, perhaps William and his father might think of stepping down before dying. And that of course, would pave the way for young Prince George to modernize the monarchy, if it exists at all in the future.
