Queen Elizabeth Infuriated With Meghan Markle’s Lies

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first daughter into the world, they chose the name Lilibet. And at the time, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex claimed that Queen Elizabeth approved the use of her nickname. But now a royal aide recalls the monarch’s wrath at that lie, per the Daily Mail.

And the royal staff member describes Queen Elizabeth becoming “as angry as I’d ever seen her” when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in public that they chose the monarch’s private family nickname because of her support.

However, at the time, rumors soared that Meghan and Harry did not ask Queen Elizabeth for permission to use that nickname.

And the Duke and Duchess of Sussex then told their legal firm, Schillings, to issue letters to news broadcasters and publishers, including the BBC, describing claims that they didn’t ask Queen Elizabeth as false and defamatory.

However, then Meghan and Harry tried to get Buckingham Palace to support their version. And the Sussex couple received a royal rebuff, say insiders.

Queen Elizabeth Cherished Her Private Nickname

When Harry and Meghan shared their decision to name their daughter Lilibet in 2021, shock waves hit the Palace. The late Queen Elizabeth cherished that nickname, used because as a child, she couldn’t say her name correctly.

And only the Queen’s parents, King George VI, the Queen Mother; her sister, Princess Margaret; her husband, Prince Philip, and close friends used that nickname.

But the BBC reported that a palace source spilled that Meghan and Harry never asked Queen Elizabeth for permission. However, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex’s spokesperson claimed that Queen Elizabeth supported the name for their baby girl.

And the spokesperson stated, “The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement. In fact his grandmother was the first family member he called. During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”

King Charles Feels Exasperated

However, recollections may vary. And an insider shared that Elizabeth II appeared “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the Queen learned that Harry and Meghan claimed she gave them her blessing to call their baby Lilibet after her own childhood nickname. 

As for how Harry’s and Meghan’s relationship with the royal family has changed since Queen Elizabeth’s death, King Charles feels hurt. But he has learned to “compartmentalize” family drama, shared an insider. But the King does feel “exasperation” over the situation. And he still has left the door open to Harry. “You’d always like your child back,” pointed out a royal insider.
