Queen Elizabeth Cancels ANOTHER Event, Family Christmas Lunch Is Abandoned

Queen ElizabethBritish royal family news reveals the unfortunate news that Queen Elizabeth made the difficult decision to cancel her annual Royal Family Christmas lunch. The country is in the midst of a fierce fight against the Omicron Covid variant and she wisely chose prudence over partying.

The 95-year-old monarch was expected to welcome over two dozen relatives to Windsor Castle for the lunch but the palace issued a statement that she regretfully felt it better to cancel the event rather than hold an indoor event at the same time that transmission of Omicron is a very real fear.

The Queen was due to travel by helicopter to her Sandringham estate the day after the Lunch. For now that plan is still in effect and she is expected to welcome her family to the estate for a Christmas bash. Royal sources said of the decision to cancel the Lunch, “there is a belief that it is the right thing to do for all concerned.”

The cancelation of the family get together was described as a “precautionary” measure with the queen unwilling to risk people’s Christmas arrangements if Omicron reared its ugly head.

The queen was forced to cancel the 2020 Lunch also due to covid concerns. The event would have been held at Buckingham Palace, the usual place for the event. This year it was to be held at Windsor Castle presumably to avoid having the queen take any unnecessary travel arrangements.

Last year the Lunch was cancelled after more restrictions were put in place due to the increase of the Delta Covid strain. The country opened up this summer but now is facing severe lockdowns just when it was hoped things would be able to get back to normal.

Instead, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and issues dire warnings about transmission concerns causing pubs and restaurants to limit events or close altogether. Citizens have been cautioned to socialize only if absolutely necessary. The caution comes with the proviso that any socializing be limited to small groups and exclude strangers.

Before the news of the queen’s cancellation broke, royal watcher Camilla Tominey reported that the palace was considering leaving it, “up to guests” as to whether or not they wished to attend the Lunch. “But apparently now they’re wavering, like we all are. Maybe it’s going to be about the guests and if people don’t feel comfortable coming, that makes the decision for you.”
