Kate Middleton has a new reason to smile these days. That’s because there are new reports that say Queen Elizabeth has just given the Duchess of Cambridge a huge honor and right in time for her 8thwedding anniversary, too. Here’s what you need to know.
According to E! News, Buckingham Palace announced that Kate Middleton was appointed to Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order by her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth, II. The title is a very special one as it recognizes services and is the highest rank in the order personally granted by the queen herself.
The royal mother-of-three is in good company with her new title. She also joins Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie, Countess of Wessex with her title. The order was founded by Queen Victoria in 1896. Queen Elizabeth’s daughter, Princess Anne, serves as Grand Master.
This isn’t the first time that a royal has been given a special title as a gift on their wedding anniversary. Back in 2017, Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order to mark their milestone 70thwedding anniversary. There are also lower ranks in the Order that are given to palace employees and longstanding staffers who have shown dedication to their job.
Also, Kate’s brother-in-law Prince Harry was named a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2015. Last week, Harry made a special appearance with Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in London to help mark the Anzac Day Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving. Many eagle-eyed royal fans noticed that Prince Harry wore a Maltese cross that serves as the symbol of his position around his neck. Fans can also look at for Kate to wear a similar ornate Maltese cross surrounded by an eight-pointed silver star. The size of the badge is larger for higher ranks.

So far the Duchess of Cambridge herself hasn’t made any comments about the gift, although it’s safe to say that she is surely feeling honored by the title. The honor comes only a few short weeks after Kate and the Queen made their first-ever joint outing at King’s College’s Strand campus in London.
