According to new reports, Queen Elizabeth will be honoring a very close friend by the name of Annette Wilkin. Even though her name doesn’t sound very familiar to a lot of royal fans, she played a prominent role behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace. That’s because she worked for the monarchy for 40 years and did multiple jobs and held quite a few positions until she worked her way up as the head housekeeper. She was one of the most loyal staff members the monarchy has ever seen.
Wilkin recently passed away after suffering from a brief illness. She was 72 at the time of her death. Sources believe that Queen Elizabeth will be attending Wilkin’s funeral, despite royal protocol that says members of the monarchy cannot attend funerals. It’s thought that the Queen will make an exception this one time simply because she was such good friends with Wilkin.
Sources say that Queen Elizabeth and Annette Wilkin were such good friends that the Queen had even gifted her with a corgi. Her Majesty apparently also let Wilkin live in a cottage on the grounds of Windsor castle just so the two of them could live close by to one another. Additional insiders say that everyone behind the scenes at Buckingham Palace respected Wilkin, as she was someone who always held herself in the highest esteem.
So far Queen Elizabeth herself has not made any comments about Annette Wilkin’s death nor has Buckingham Palace said anything about her funeral plans. However, insiders say that the Queen is saddened over the passing of her beloved friend and wants to honor her in the best way possible. For the Queen, this was one true friend that she valued very much in her life. We will definitely update you with more information as it comes in!
