Reason King Charles Won't Abdicate For Prince William Revealed

Charles waited for over seven decades to become King, and following the Queen‘s passing a few months after the celebration of her epic Platinum Jubilee, he finally went from heir to monarch.

Naturally, nobody expected King Charles the III’s reign to be anywhere near as long as his mother’s, but with his cancer diagnosis, royal fans are seeing a future where Prince William is King sooner rather than later.

But will King Charles pave the way for this future by abdicating? Royal experts don’t think so, and they’ve got a good reason for it.

Prince William Will Only Step Up His Duties To Support His Father As Heir

King Charles has continued to push forward with his royal duties, despite his cancer diagnosis. Yes, there’s no way he would show up half as much as he would have done without the burden of his cancer diagnosis and treatments, but he continues to show up.

This year will see him take more state visits like the one we saw them embark to Italy just this month. As we know, you don’t have to be 76 and suffering from an undisclosed form of cancer for travels to be exhausting, so imagine it at that age and with that health condition.

Most people wouldn’t blame Charles if he prioritized his health and abdicated from the throne, but according to royal expert Hilary Fordwich, it would take more than that to get him to make way for William.

Do You Think King Charles Should Abdicate?

On Prince William’s part, he has been taking up more responsibilities to ease his father’s workload, but only as the heir. Fordwich said: “Prince William has been assuming more responsibilities and there have been preparations for more transitions of responsibility.”

“Both Prince William and Princess Catherine have been readying to assume leadership roles with an accelerated schedule of preparation for their future positions as king and queen. But most certainly, they are not in any way actively seeking an immediate ascension,” she further stressed.

“The entire family, all senior roles, are more focused on the best interests of the monarchy’s stability and continuity, hence all being content with the gradual transition rather than any immediate decisions. The only definite thing is that an abdication would be a significant departure from all tradition.”

The reason the family wouldn’t want to dip their toes in the pool of abdication again might stem from the memory of the last one, performed by Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, Edward VIII, which caused “a constitutional crisis.”
