Royal Family News: 3 Things That Went Horribly Wrong At Prince Charles And Princess Diana’s Wedding

Prince Charles And DianaBritish royal family news teases that the whole world now knows that the London marriage of the late Princess Diana to Prince Charles was not a fairytale wedding and that there was no happily ever after for them.

From the outside, the 1981 visuals were tantalizing: a radiant young bride, an heir to the monarchy, an open carriage, and lots of glamour. Sadly it was all hollow. Later Diana would claim that Charles told her the night before that he was not in love with her and both would go on to have affairs during their ill-fated union.

Here are three amazing precursors to what would turn out to be a nightmare of a marriage between Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and then Lady Diana Spencer.

#1 Princess Diana Had A Bad Headache The Whole Day

Maybe Princess Diana should have seen the fact that she had a headache on her wedding day as a bad omen? Diana’s brother Charles Spencer shared in 2010 that his sister had a “cracking headache” the day of her wedding. He claims it was due to her being unaccustomed to wearing a tiara. On the day of her nuptials, Diana turned down one of Queen Elizabeth’s tiaras so that she could wear a family heirloom.

According to Spencer, it was a weighty proposition. “In the evening we all went to a sort of semi-private party, and she was there, and she seemed incredibly relaxed and happy and I just remember she had a cracking headache too because she wasn’t used to wearing a tiara all morning,” he told ET.

#2 Princess Diana Called Out The Wrong Name At The Altar

When it came time for Diana to speak her groom’s name at the altar, she called out the wrong name!

But it’s not as tragic as it could have been. No, Diana did not call out another man’s name, she simply mixed up the order of all of Charles’ names. Nerves got the best of Diana when she reversed the order of his first two names and called him “Philip Charles” Arthur George, instead of “Charles Philip” Arthur George. Did she have his father Prince Philip on the brain?

#3 The Small Carriage Did A Number On Diana’s Wedding Dress

Everything was oversized in the ’80s, including Diana’s wedding dress. The giant concoction had a 25-foot train, yards of silk taffeta and lace, huge sleeves, and a humongous skirt.

She and her father, John Spencer, arrived at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Queen Elizabeth’s ceremonial Glass Coach. The ride is stunning and historic but also tiny, all things considered.

Diana’s dress came out the worse for wear after sitting in the little space and when she stepped out her beautiful dress was wrinkly and her train was rumpled.
