Royal Family News: 5 Heartbreaking Traumas Prince William Has Had To Live Through

Prince WilliamBritish royal family news might make it appear as if Prince William the Duke of Cambridge’s life is a fairytale; he is a United Kingdom prince after all. On top of that, he has all the trappings of success: wealth, looks, a gorgeous wife, and a beautiful family. But appearances can be deceiving.

Here are five reasons why Britain’s Prince William has lived a life full of the same kind of turbulent emotional ups and downs as the rest of us.

#1 Prince William Was Devastated When His Mother Admitted To Having An Affair

In November 1995 William’s mother the late Princess Diana sat for a flame-filled tell-all interview. She declared that both she and Prince William’s father Prince Charles had been unfaithful. Young Prince William reportedly watched the interview while he was away from home at school. He was said to be left furious and in tears and refused his mother’s phone call after the interview aired.

#2 Prince William Suffered A Fractured Skull As A Child

In boarding school 8-year old William incurred a major head injury. He was accidentally hit with a golf club as he larked around with his peers. It was reported that the youth suffered a skull fracture, which required an hour-long operation.

Princess Diana was with him during the surgery and spent the night at the hospital while Prince Charles was said to have seen his son after the accident, but left the hospital to attend the opera.

Years later William has only a scar from the incident which he calls his, “Harry Potter scar.”

#3 Prince William Was Devastated By His Parents’ Bitter Divorce

After Princess Diana’s bombshell interview in 1995, her marital relationship nosedived. The following month Queen Elizabeth wrote letters to her son and daughter-in-law ordering them to divorce—there simply was no going back or treading water.

The book Prince William: A Biography noted that the 1996 divorce left William “traumatized.”

#4 Prince William Was Isolated Away From His Family At Boarding School

Like most royals, Prince William was packed off to boarding school at a young age and he had trouble adjusting. He was just 8 years old at the time and reportedly very lonely. To try and take the sting out of his being sent away, Princess Diana regularly wrote to him, and it is said her letters were addressed to, “My Darling Wombat.”

#5 Prince William Didn’t Want To Inherit The Throne Ond Be King

Prince William’s schoolmates teased him about being the heir to the throne, and reportedly a young Prince Harry was the one to tell him that he would not have a choice in the matter. In the 2019 documentary Paxman on the Queen’s Children, Princess Diana revealed that Prince William frequently said that he didn’t want to be king and that Prince Harry was eager to take his place.

And we all know how that turned out.
