Royal Family News – Prince Charles Is A Pilot

Prince Charles is a licensed jet and helicopter pilot and made history in 1971 when he became the first member of the Royal Family to obtain RAF wings as Flight Lieutenant Wales. He had a career in the Royal Navy just as his father, grandfather and great grandfathers before him. He quit piloting in 1994, after a runway mishap that saw him crash a plane into a bog in Scotland.

Charles was 15 when his father Prince Philip gave him his first polo mallet and in turn he has passed along his polo skills to sons Prince William and Prince Harry. Music is not all Charles got up to while in college. He was also a devoted theater student. At Cambridge University Prince Charles was a member of Footlights comedy group. Other Footlights alum include Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson.
