Royal Family News: 5 Times The Queen And Her Family Bent The Rules

The Queen British royal family news reveals that the United Kingdom royal family are rule bound like most families are not. They have tons of traditional protocol to follow but every now and then a little slip up occurs; we could fill an entire book with just Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s slip ups. Here are some of the more entertaining royal boo-boos (that we know about!).

1. Prince Louis

He’s only a baby, but still, Prince Louis is royal, so he should know better! According to his mom he’s still getting the hang of COVID social distancing guidelines. She recently spilled that her youngest son Prince Louis, two, “doesn’t understand social distancing. So he goes out wanting to cuddle everything, particularly any babies younger than him.”

2. The Queen

The royals are not supposed to sign their names to anything so The Queen stunned royal watchers when she once agreed to sign a ball for a Manchester United fan. It was during a visit to Malaysia in 1998. She needed a bit of help with United player and England football hero, Sir Bobby Charlton, saying, “She didn’t know what to do so I just helped to hold the ball. This is a fantastic honor for Manchester United.”

3. Prince Harry

The royals are not selfie fans and it is generally taboo to take them. Still, the prince was more than happy to mug for the camera with a fan in May 2016 in Estonia. He once said, “No, I hate selfies. Seriously, you need to get out of it (the habit), I know you’re young, selfies are bad. Just take a normal photograph!” Apparently he changed his mind.

4. Princess Diana

Princess Diana went against royal wedding tradition by not promising to “obey” Prince Charles during the couple’s wedding 1981 at St. Paul’s Cathedral—and we all know how that turned out!

In 2011 Duchess Kate followed Diana’s example when she married Prince William, promising to “love him, comfort him, honour and keep him in sickness and in health and, forsaking all others, keep only unto him so long as ye both shall live.” Fingers crossed on that one.

5. Meghan Markle And Prince Harry

It is customary for members of the royal family to marry on a weekday—unless your names are Harry and Meghan. Kate and William, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank all married on a Friday. The rest of the senior royals followed tradition but The Markle’s just had to get hitched on a Saturday. Oy, vey.
