Now, two months later the British royal family is paying homage to their late patriarch. Numerous tributes and photos have been posted on social media, and last week the queen received a guest who presented her with a flower named after her late husband.

Prince William and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, paid tribute to his late grandfather by posting photos that also contained Queen Elizabeth.
They captioned them: “Remembering His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, on what would have been his 100th birthday.”
Last week the queen was gifted with a rose, named after her late husband, from the Royal Horticultural Society. In a statement, Buckingham Palace stated, “The Queen has gifted a Duke of Edinburgh rose by @the_rhs, of which Her Majesty is Patron. Named in The Duke’s memory, the rose is planted in the East Terrace Garden, Windsor Castle. The newly bred deep pink commemorative rose from Harkness Roses has officially been named in memory of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”

The statement went on to say: “Presented to The Queen by the President of the Royal Horticultural Society, Keith Weed, the rose has since been planted in the mixed rose border of the East Terrace Garden at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh played a significant role in the design of the garden having restructured the flowerbeds and commissioned a bronze lotus fountain which features at the center of the garden.”
Throughout their marriage, Philip made sure to give his wife flowers on her birthday.
Royal Family News – Prince Philip Would Have Turned 100 Today
On Instagram, pictures showed the queen receiving the rose, and another showed the flower up close. A third picture featured the queen and Philip with Her Majesty holding a bouquet.
According to the post, the roses will be used to raise money for charity: “For every Duke of Edinburgh Rose sold, a donation will be made to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Living Legacy Fund.”
“The Fund will give a million more young people, from all circumstances and backgrounds, the opportunity to achieve a DofE Award. Each rose purchased will help establish new DofE centers, deepen existing support, and train thousands more Leaders and volunteers.”
Prince Philip was known for his legendary sense of humor and he once said of the prospect of turning 100, “I can’t imagine anything worse. Bits of me are falling off already.”
