Royal Family news reveals that, according to Newsweek, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s struggle with the expectations of life as a senior royal was visible via video footage of a time when Meghan had said they were both “just trying to hold on.”

In Markle’s March 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview she described experiencing suicidal feelings while still pregnant with the royal couple’s first child, Archie. She explained that things began to change for the Sussexes once she was accused of making Kate Middleton cry, which was reported on at the time, by The Sun.

Meghan Markle Couldn’t Be Left Alone

During the Oprah interview on CBS, Markle said she “just didn’t want to be alive anymore.” She described the thought as “a very clear, and real, and frightening constant thought” adding that she remembered how Prince Harry “just cradled” her.

Markle had reportedly told her husband her feelings on January 16, 2019, but said that they had an event that evening at the Royal Albert Hall for the premiere of the Cirque de Soleil production “Totem”.

“It wasn’t even, ‘I don’t want to.’ It was like, ‘These are the thoughts that I’m having in the middle of the night that are very clear and I’m scared because this is very real. This isn’t some abstract idea. This is methodical, and this is not who I am,’” Markle explained.

“But we had to go to this event, and I remember him saying, ‘I don’t think you can go.’ And I said, ‘I can’t be left alone.’” She added that the photograph still haunted her.

Markle said she knew they had an official event and they had to go, but added, “a friend said, ‘I know you don’t look at pictures, but, oh, my God, you guys look so great,’ and sent it to me.” She intimated that she was still painfully aware that she had to go to the event but had said to Harry that she couldn’t be left alone.

Prince Harry’s Knuckles Were Tightly Gripped

“And I zoomed in, and what I saw was the truth of what that moment was, because right before we had to leave for that, I had just had that conversation with Harry that morning, and it was the next day that I talked to the institution (the palace).”

Markle described the image, saying, “That picture, if you zoom in, what I see is how tightly his knuckles are gripped around mine. You can see the whites of our knuckles because we are smiling and doing our job, but we’re both just trying to hold on.”
