British Royal Family News says that a lot of critics believe that Meghan Markle seemingly took a jab at Kate Middleton in her new Netflix docuseries, Harry and Meghan. Or at least, that’s what it seemed like when the Duchess of Sussex made it sound like the Princess of Wales is just as formal on the inside as she is on the outside. Here’s what you need to know.

During the series, Meghan recalled the first time that she met Prince William and Kate Middleton. She said that she was surprised by how formal the couple was, even though they were all in a very informal setting – at Harry and Meghan’s house for dinner.

Meghan said, “They came for dinner. I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot.”

She then continued, “I was a hugger. Always been a hugger. I didn’t realize that is jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside . . . and that was surprising to me.”

During the series, Harry and Meghan also talked about some of the racism that the duchess had endured during her time in the UK and also detailed some of Britain’s colonist history. Harry also said that his family told him that Meghan’s bruising press coverage “was almost like a rite of passage.”

Harry said that he was told, “My wife had to go through that, so why should your girlfriend be treated any differently? Why should you get special treatment? Why should she be protected?’…I said, ‘The difference here is the race element.'”

So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter even though Netflix alleges that they reached out to the palace for comment. Volume 2 of Harry and Meghan drops on Netflix on December 15th.
