And yet despite the pomp and circumstance there are royal experts who predict that the monarchy’s popularity will take a nose dive after the queen’s heir and eldest son Prince Charles takes the reins.
Royal Family News – Will The Monarchy Nosedive?
What is behind this shocking sentiment? Royal expert Emma Mackenzie wrote in the Independent that Charles is no Elizabeth!
She notes that Prince Charles, “does not command the kind of popularity,” that his mother enjoys. “His latest foreign tour to Canada was seen as far more successful than those undertaken by his brother Edward and son William to the Caribbean. Charles does also seem to be deftly handling the duties he is taking on for the Queen.”
“However, the latest YouGov polls indicate that he can boast an approval rating of only 50 per cent.” That means that half the population does not think very highly of the prince.

Mackenzie added, “There is something about him that the British public do not respond to in the same way they do the Queen.”
“In some ways, recent years have seen him vindicated: where once his ardent environmentalism was seen as a strange quirk, the realities of the climate crisis have proven his early warnings to be prescient.”
Still, being right about the environment will only take Charles so far with the public. At one time he was blasted as a loon for talking to his plants and that kind of image doesn’t fade. Plus there is the matter of his second marriage to Camilla, a woman accused by his first wife of being a home wreaker.
Royal Family News – Will Charles Succeed As King?
Then there is the matter of Republic, a group dedicated to disbanding the monarchy. Graham Smith is the head of the organization and has rallied to have the monarchy abolished. With court jesters such as Andrew and Harry doing their best to accomplish this from the inside out, does the monarchy stand a chance of thriving in the 21st century? That is a question whose answer lies ahead.
