British royal family news reveals that 2020 can’t end fast enough for many of us and that includes the United Kingdom’s royal family. It will be remembered as the year of COVID and the royals were not immune from the pandemic. They also experienced several headline worthy events and here are five of their most extraordinary moments.
#1 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Drop Kick The Firm
One day the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were living large in London the next day they aired their dirty laundry and all of their grievances, rocking the monarchy to its core. On Jan. 8, 2020, the Markle’s announced that they would be stepping back as senior members of the royal family in order to make all the money they wanted in the land of the American Dream. To their credit, they seem to have done just that as the couple signed mega deals with Spotify and Netflix.
But they were also the subject of controversy when they “interfered” with the US Presidential election and continued to sue anyone who displeased them.
#2 Princess Beatrice Marries In A Super Secret Wedding Ceremony
Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony in Windsor in July following the delay of her May wedding. Just a few family members attended including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, but her disgraced father, Prince Andrew, wasn’t included in the wedding photos released to the public.
#3 The Royal Family Release A Picture Of The New Firm
The senior royals took a socially distanced photograph at Windsor Castle in December and it was immediately reported that the picture’s significance was its indication of a New Firm: Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Camila, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince Edward and Sophia, Countess of Wessex; Princess Anne; and Prince William and Kate Middleton.
#4 Princes William And Charles Reportedly Diagnosed With COVID-19
Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, tested positive for COVID-19 in March. He reportedly had mild symptoms and recovered quickly. In November The Sun reported that William contracted COVID-19 in April after his father, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson also tested positive. Kensington Palace did not confirm nor deny the report.
