Sarah Vine of The Daily Mail is the latest VIP to express outrage. This weekend MP John Major spoke out against Netflix and asked that a boycott be waged based on its scurrilous depiction of the royals.
According to Major, Netflix is doing nothing less that waging a “hurtful” smear campaign against King Charles by suggesting that he tried to displace his own mother, Queen Elizabeth.
Where is Harry’s outrage? Where us the umbrage that propels Harry to sue at the drop of a hat, any outlet that displeases him? Surely Diana being dragged across the television landscape does not please him?
Royal Family News – Where Is Harry’s Outrage?
According to Vine, “Unlike other shows about the Royal Family, which either seek to satirise or stylise their existence, The Crown is mawkish and exploitative. Its makers have never viewed the real-life counterparts of their on-screen characters with any sort of humanity, seeing their lives, loves and personal tragedies as nothing more than a gold mine to be exploited for maximum profit.”
Which is all the more repugnant when one considers that Harry and Meghan Duchess, “financed their move to America by joining Netflix’s payroll to the tune of several million dollars.”
Royal Family News – Where is Harry’s Character?
She echoes the sentiment of many when she says that, “People have often expressed a certain amount of consternation that the Queen’s grandson should willingly take the shilling of an outfit which has, over the years, been at best economical with his family’s truth, at worst downright exploitative.”
“Why on earth wouldn’t they get into bed with Netflix? It’s the perfect partnership.”
Which makes perfect sense which in turn makes the union of dollar hungry souls repugnant. That’s because the fifth season of The Crown comes on the heels of the death of the nation’s longest serving monarch and it covers the years from 1991 to 1996, which means the breakdown of Charles’s marriage to Diana will be dissected in bloodletting detail. Apparently Harry is ok with this?
Vine comments, “These are his so-called loved ones, his family, his father and grandmother, who are being exploited. You might have thought he would at the very least want nothing to do with the perpetrators, very possibly speak out against them. After all, he’s not exactly backwards in coming forwards when it comes to voicing his grievances with other sectors of the media. But no. Not a peep. Funny that.”
Instead it is the real hero of the family, Prince William who has, “accused Netflix of ‘profiteering’ from his family, and in particular his mother’s infamous Panorama interview.”
“Harry has never made any secret of his hatred for those he believes hounded his mother to her death. How sad that he should now find himself on the payroll of those turning her – and the rest of the Royals’ – pain into entertainment.” There is a word for that ….
