They were not in their military uniforms, as were other senior royals. That unfortunate fact was the result of their conduct unbecoming to the crown, the consequence of their own actions. As such they have no one to account to but themselves.

Andrew is the Duke of York, and that town’s leaders have called on him to be stripped of that title, wanting nothing to do with him. Harry is the Duke of Sussex, and those townspeople have asked that Harry not represent them.

Andrew’s siblings King Charles, Prince Edward and Princess Anne, all proudly wore their military uniforms, “and as the trio raised a crisp salute to their late mother outside Westminster Abbey, a grieving Prince Andrew – positioned between the Princess Royal and Earl of Wessex – slowly bowed his head in tribute.”

As the Daily Mail noted, “He was joined by Prince Harry, who is also not donning military dress and bowed his head instead of saluting the late monarch.”

Every family the world over has an Andrew and a Harry among them. But rarely is a scorned family member’s rebuke so painfully public. Andrew was stripped of every inch of his royalness in February after giving millions of settlement money to a woman who accused him of sexually abusing her when she was a minor. He denied the charges.

Harry, “was also barred from wearing his military uniform after departing from royal duties.” That is putting it very mildly, and too kindly given Harry’s tireless crass rants against his family after marrying Meghan Markle and defecting to America for money—or in their quaint words, “financial freedom.”
