In many ways, Charles and Camilla, who will take over for his mother, have been in the spotlight more and more especially as the coronavirus shut down life as we know it. And with that exposure has come more scrutiny.
How Will Camilla Fare When Her Husband Charles Ascends The Throne?
Camilla’s own family is “fearful” about what happens when Charles becomes King according to royal biographer Penny Junor.
In her book, The Duchess, Junor wrote, “At least one member of her family doesn’t want her to become Queen for fear of a backlash.” This family member believes it would be better for Camilla if she became Princess Consort.
“I do so want her to be alright and I do worry that she won’t be,” said the source. “How is she going to be judged? That’s the thing I feel fearful about. Between Diana and the Queen is a hard place to be. People might go a bit wild.”
How Will Camilla Parker Bowles Be Judged When Charles Ascends The Throne?
The source went on, “The Queen who’s been in our lives forever, the worship of Diana, and suddenly Queen Camilla. It’s going to be such a shake-up. I fear for them both.”
Of course, Camilla and Diana are two entirely different personalities and the late Diana operated in a completely different period of time and taste.
According to Junor, former MP Frank Field told her, “Charles will try and press on her to be crowned Queen. And it is right that he should do so. We have no known basis for the wife of the King not being crowned Queen. It is how that goal is achieved which is crucially important.”
Will Charles And Camilla Ruffle Feathers When He Ascends The Throne And Succeeds Queen Elizabeth?
Junor writes that “In the past, the wives of Kings have been known as Queens Consort – but they have never arrived in that position via the divorce courts.”
The acerbic author added, “I have little doubt that Charles is so proud of Camilla and so grateful for everything she has done for him and sacrificed for him, that he will insist she gets the full title. Friends and family know it is not something she wants – she has said as much.”
So why would Charles try and foist something upon his wife that she does not want? Does she not have a say so in her own life and legacy?
Apparently not as the final decision rests with Charles; as monarch, he can appoint whatever title he wishes.
We shall see who has the last word.
