Since the death of Prince Philip, there has been a lack of “glue” to keep The Firm unified. Many royal watchers credit the unflappable elder statesman as a peacemaker and they now see the calm mother of three as a no-brainer to take over this role.

Vanity Fair royal editor Katie Nichol told 60 Minutes Australia that Kate is the royal family’s, “greatest asset,” and described her as, “the perfect vehicle for good PR for the family.”

“The royal family realizes they have a really important key player here and they’re bringing her center stage,” Katie said.

“I think Kate is the glue. In the same way that the Duke of Edinburgh was always the one who would help resolve family issues. He was the patriarch of the family. I see Kate stepping into that role. Trying to keep things together.”
