Royal Family News: Kilted King Charles Back To Scotland, First Engagement Since Queen Elizabeth’s PassingBritish royal family news death shows that newly crowned King Charles and his wife Queen Consort Camilla are back in Scotland for the first time since the death last month of his 96-year old mother Queen Elizabeth.

The monarch died at her Balmoral estate and Charles and her daughter the Princess Royal were at her bedside when she passed “peacefully.”

King Charles’ visit came on Monday as he held his first engagement in Scotland since the end of the royal mourning period for Queen Elizabeth.

Charles was accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla as they arrived in Dunfermline to give status to the city, which won status during the Queen’s June Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Charles said, “There could be no more fitting way to mark my beloved mother’s extraordinary life of service than by granting this honor to a place made famous by its own long and distinguished history, and by the indispensable role it has played in the life of our country.”

He added, “We gather to celebrate this great occasion but also to commemorate the life of Her late Majesty, whose deep love for Scotland was one of the foundations of her life.” Just days before her passing the monarch installed a new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, at Balmoral.

Dunfermline in Fife is north of Edinburgh and hundreds of well-wishers gathered on the streets to greet the new king. Charles wore a kilt for the visit, greeted Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and other leaders, and then spent time shaking hands with the crowd.

But already controversy has creeped into his reign, as King Charles has just canceled his trip to Egypt next month for an international climate change summit.

According to The Sunday Times, the cancellation came after Truss, “objected to Charles attending the conference, known as COP27, when she met with the king last month at Buckingham Palace. However, a member of the cabinet insisted the government and palace were in agreement about the cancelation.”

Simon Clarke told Times Radio, “That is a decision that has been made amicably, as far as I am aware, between the palace and the government. The suggestions this morning that he was ordered to stay away are simply not true.”

Charles’ legacy rests in part on his environmental activism, an advocacy role that he has been urged to relinquish now that he is king.

During his first speech as the King, Charles seemed to hint that he will stay between the lines of the monarchy and refrain from taking outspoken stands on other matters: “My life will, of course, change as I take up my new responsibilities. It will no longer be possible for me to give so much of my time and energies to the charities and issues for which I care so deeply. But I know this important work will go on in the trusted hands of others.”
