In his subsequent declaration at St. James’s Palace in London, the king vowed to uphold, “constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands, and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world.”
Royal Family News: King Charles is Now Sovereign
At 11am local time, “trumpets sounded from the balcony of St James’s Palace as the Principal Proclamation announcing the King was read out. Crowds gathered outside the palace as the King was officially proclaimed Sovereign of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, including Supreme Head of the Church of England and Commander-in-Chief of Britain’s Armed Forces, as well as Head of State of the Commonwealth and British territories around the world.”
According to the Daily Mail, this was followed by gun salutes at Hyde Park, the Tower of London, Edinburgh Castle, Hillsborough Castle and Cardiff Castle. Next the National Anthem was performed by The Band of the Coldstream Guards and eight State Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry.
Eventually the crowd of gathered outside the palace cried out, “hip hip hooray,” for the newly installed King.
Royal Family News: King Charles Is In Charge
Prior to this King Charles announced that the queen’s funeral day, Monday, September 19, will be a bank holiday.
Among the words spoken by Charles: “My lords, ladies and gentlemen, it is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother the Queen. I know how deeply you, the entire nation, and I think I may say the whole world, sympathise with me in the irreparable loss we’ve all suffered.”

The new king also told the assemblage, “In taking up these responsibilities, I shall strive to follow the inspiring example I have been set in upholding constitutional government and to seek the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands, and of the Commonwealth realms and territories throughout the world.”
After his personal declaration was done, King Charles, “took the oath to preserve the Church of Scotland – because in Scotland there is a division of powers between the church and state.”
Among those assembled was Prime Minister Liz Truss who was invited to form a new government by the queen, at Balmoral on Tuesday.
