According to The Times royal editor Roya Nikkhah, this matter is “heightening tensions” between Charles and his son Harry and his wife Meghan.

Queen Elizabeth passed away “peacefully” at her Balmoral estate on September 8 at the age of 96. Now according to royal protocol, Archie and Lilibet, “are entitled to the titles prince and princess as grandchildren of the monarch.”

Royal watchers have found that the two are still listed as Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor and Miss Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor on the Royal Family’s website. Of this, a source told the Times: “The King is focused on the mourning period. It’s unlikely you’ll know other titles during that period. I’m sure at some point there will be discussions.”

Roya Nikkah reports that Harry and Meghan, who still refer to themselves as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are afraid that the King may strip Archie and Lilibet of their titles since he has not recognized them as such immediately after the Queen’s death.”

Royal expert Kate Nicholl told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat that King Charles needs to be able to “trust” the royal runaways if he is to bestow the titles upon their kids.

She said, “One of the interesting things that came out in all of this was the speculation about titles, and Archie and Lilibet … whether they would officially be acknowledged as Prince and Princess, the titles owed to them when Charles became King….”

Isn’t it curious that the thirsty pair always appear to be “owed” something, that they always demand something of the royal family? She added, “They remain ‘Miss’ and ‘Master’ currently [on the Royal Website]. And I’m told that that is a very clear signal from the King. He’s willing to give those titles, but it comes with a caveat, and that caveat is trust. They have to know that they can trust the [Sussex] family.”

According to complicated royal protocol, when Archie and Lilibet were born, they were too removed from the line of succession to receive prince and princess titles.

But as the grandchildren of the current monarch, they, “are entitled to be addressed as prince and princess, and to use HRH.” But their parents are not senior royals although royal expert Phil Dampier thinks that allowing them prince and princess titles but not HRH, “would be a classic compromise.”
