Royal Family News: Kristen Stewart As Princess Diana Called ‘Badly Flawed’

Kristen Stewart’British royal family news reveals that more than one royal watcher has heartburn after sitting through Kristen Stewart’s new film about Princess Diana, titled Spencer. Many film fans, as well as royal experts, questioned the wisdom of casting the American Twilight actress in the role of an English icon. Their verdict after seeing the finished product? Not good. If you have one, it’s time to brandish the shield against the bombardment of rotten tomatoes.

Royal Family News – Rotten Tomatoes Are Flying

Some commentators are also clacking about the effect the flick will have on Princess Diana’s grown sons Princes Harry and William. The film debuts on November 5 and there are graphic scenes of her, “fantasizing about throwing herself down the stairs and choking on a pearl necklace gifted to her by husband Prince Charles,” according to the Daily Mail.

The film details her self-acknowledged bulimia and show her vomiting plus having hallucinations about her own death. Royal experts Richard Fitzwilliams, Ingrid Seward and Penny Junor are not pleased with the film.

Royal Family News – Critics Don’t Like Spencer

Fitzwilliams told MailOnline, “It was an extraordinary decision to feature Princess Diana throwing up on the poster whilst dressed in couture. The film does show scenes of bulimia and self harm which is indeed cruel.” And yet these are scenes of real life as Diana herself talked of these issues.

He attended a BFI London Film Festival screening and noted, “I strongly doubt that either William or Harry will watch it. We have 20 more episodes of The Crown to come, which will probably also show disturbing scenes featuring her.”

“At least (director Pablo) Larrain only claims this is ‘an imagining’, ‘a fable’ and that is his right as a film maker. But it is not dramatic enough to be good cinema and its appeal is centered on Kristen Stewart’s portrayal of Diana which, though it has its merits, is badly flawed.”

Royal Family News – Critics Pan Spencer

Ingrid Seward is the editor in chief of Majesty Magazine and she agrees with Fitzwilliams, telling The Sun, “It is really cruel to portray her like this. It is totally unnecessary.”

She thinks, Prince William and Harry will be very angry and hurt about this. They will find it horrible that their mother is being portrayed in such a huge movie this way.”

Lastly, royal watcher Penny Junor told the Sun, “It is unnecessarily gratuitous. Poor William is all I can say, and let’s leave Diana with a shred of respect and dignity. I know William was there when she was unhappy but it sounds to me the movie is factually incorrect.”
