Royal Family News: Law Expert Disputes Queen’s Right To Strip Prince Andrew’s Title

Queen ElizabethBritish royal family news shows that Prince Andrew was not successful in his bid to escape a sexual assault civil case in the US. Virginia Giuffre has accused him of having sex with her three times when she was a minor. She claims that she was a sex trafficking victim of his friends, convicted sex traffickers Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Epstein killed himself in jail and Maxwell awaits sentencing. Andrew’s case is due to be heard in autumn.

Andrew was expunged from the monarchy last week and now one law expert predicts that he may be allowed to retain his royal title despite losing his military titles.

Royal Family News – Prince Andrew Is Not A Senior Working Royal

Craig Prescott is a professor at Bangor University in Wales. According to him Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, may be able to keep his royal title due to a law from 1917.

Nonetheless, Buckingham Palace has issued a statement proclaiming that he has been stripped of his patronages and military titles, and not allowed to call himself His Royal Highness.

Prescott told The Mirror of a law passed by King George V in 1917 called Letters Patent. According to it, “Prince Andrew, like Prince Harry, is entitled to use the style ‘His Royal Highness’ unless The Queen officially revokes it, which hasn’t yet happened.”

Royal Family News – Will The Queen Revoke Andrew and Harry?

The expert says, “The difficulty for the Queen is that both Prince Harry and Prince Andrew are entitled to retain the title under Letters Patent issued by George V in 1917 – this is a legal document that effectively expresses the wishes of the monarch.”

He added, “It would take a further Letters Patent for a HRH title to be removed from someone. Still, Andrew has not lost everything. He retains the title of ‘prince’ from birth and remains the Duke of York, which is a peerage.”

The legal expert claims, “Under the law, both titles and peerages are forms of intangible property (incorporeal hereditaments). A general principle of law is that property cannot simply be seized from someone without prior legal authorisation. He also remains in the line of succession for the throne.”

Royal Family News – Andrew Has A Court Case Coming Up

Maybe Prescott hasn’t read the Buckingham Palace announcement issued last week. It was crystal clear that Andrew is persona non grata, and announced that he will face his sex assault trial as a private citizen. It does not get less regal than that.
