What a pleasant Royal Family surprise! A teen girl signed on for a virtual mentoring session, and what did she get, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Reports say she recognized them easily as she was already invested and following up with the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry story. She also got a gift after the surprise mentoring session.
Royal Family News – Surprise Mentoring Session
In celebration of Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, Royal Family news reveals Meghan Markle and Harry encouraged others to “unleash a groundswell of real acts of compassion.” They gave suggestions on what one can do to help out on their Archewell Foundation website. To follow their own advice of doing acts of compassion, and to handle their own suggestion firsthand, they signed on to “tutor a teenage girl who is navigating high school on her computer”.
Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, used a volunteer organization L.A Works and the “I Have a Dream” Foundation to set up a virtual meeting with an unsuspecting teenage girl. Both organizations work to ensure that children are able to pursue higher education.
“She had this moment of surprise and excitement when she got on the phone with the Duke and Duchess,” L.A. Works Executive Director Deborah Brutchey told PEOPLE. “She knew of them, she knew a lot – she had been following Meghan’s story quite a bit, so she was very excited that she had the opportunity to speak with them.”
Royal Family News reveals Brutchey further said that the young woman was “really moved” by Meghan and Prince Harry’s “compassion, humility and wisdom.”
“It was really significant for her because they saw her potential in a few short minutes, which actually undid some damage that had been previously caused by a former teacher’s doubt,” she explained. “It was just amazing how they were able to connect and how their compassion, in just a short conversation, really made an impact and is going to forever inspire her.”
Chatting With The Duke And Duchess Of Sussex
They didn’t only restrict themselves to chatting with the girl about her schoolwork and how she’s coping and dealing with school, but went further than that, to be able to get a picture of her life and her passions.
“The conversation that they had was really about ‘how do you overcome challenges in your life?’ And ‘how do you stay true to your values?’ Things that are so relatable to young girls but also so public in what the Duke and Duchess have gone through,” Brutchey noted.
After their delightful conversation in which Meghan and Harry noticed that she had sunflowers in her room, they sent her a surprise gift in the form of sunflowers and an encouraging note.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, by stepping forward and giving an example of how someone’s mindset and life could be changed by a simple few minutes of mentoring, are also encouraging people to find time to do the same, even and especially during this COVID-19 crisis.
L.A Works is an organization that connects volunteers in California with various issues, from animal welfare and senior services to homelessness and the arts.
