Meghan Markle has previously asked that her court case be tossed before its trial date which is scheduled to begin this week.

On Tuesday Meghan’s legal team are taking part in a virtual court hearing which should be done by Thursday. According to her lawyers the paper cannot possibly win in the case that was brought after they published a letter Meghan wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.

If Meghan receives a summary judgment it would be a major coup for the B-list actress as the legal costs are escalating and a high court case would garner tons of publicity. On top of that she could be summoned to testify in person, and if so, she would be in the company of her estranged father.

Meghan is also trying to protect the identities of several individuals, including the five friends who dished dirt about her to People.

Inside sources are dishing that the case impacts her inner circle as well as the authors of her recent biography Finding Freedom. Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durant acknowledged that they wrote the book with her help after she denied having anything to do with it.

Scobie previously told the court he was not given any part of the letter for the book and that he was not granted interviews with the subjects.

And yet there are conflicting tales being spun by insiders, as sources have told Vanity Fair that Meghan, “intends to see this to the end.”

“It’s costing a lot of money, but no one has been in the dark about the scale of this and what it’s going to cost. The duchess’s eyes were wide open when she went into this, and she feels as strongly now as she did then that she has to draw a line in the sand. The publication of the letter and how Thomas was treated by the Mail on Sunday has caused real damage to their relationship.”

Justice Warby is hearing the case this week via video link because of the COVID lockdown. If Meghan does not get summary judgement this week, it means that the case will proceed in the UK in October.
