Samantha discovered that Meghan had her eyes on the prize, Prince Harry, just before the relationship went public. According to their father, Thomas Markle, he went along with Meghan’s wishes and kept the news out of the media for a full six months.

He told Samantha her sister was dating a relative of Queen Elizabeth in a telephone call in 2016. Thomas Markle asked her, “are you sitting down?” then spilled that her little sister Meghan was “dating a prince.”
At that time no one knew of Rachel Meghan Markle unless they watched cable show Suits.
Samantha Markle says she heard the news after she, “got in the door from the grocery store.”
The book states, “I answered it, and to my surprise, it was my dad. He was excited, but in a cautious voice he asked, ‘Are you sitting down?’”

“I said, ‘Well yeah of course I’m sitting down, I’m in a wheelchair.’ My dad’s favorite thing to say was always, ‘Cut to the chase.’ So I said, ‘OK Dad, cut to the chase. What’s up?’ I could hear the reluctance in his voice, and then he said contently, ‘Well I got a call from Meg. She’s dating a prince.”
“I said, ‘Well OK so, what else did she say? Is he nice? I thought [Meghan’s ex-husband] Trevor [Engelson] was Prince Charming. Who is this prince?’”
“I was thinking he might be from some obscure country, who is far removed, and has six names.”

Royal Family News – Meghan Markle Met Her Prince
Is it revealing that the uppermost thing on Meghan’s mind was that Harry was a prince? Not that he was a nice guy, or how they met, but just simply his status?
Prince Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016 and their relationship was exposed in U.K. newspaper the Sunday Express that October.
The book states that Thomas went on to say, “’Just avoid the media, and someone will be calling us to brief us on how to deal with it.’”
