Royal Family News: Meghan Markle Slams Sitcom For Stereotyping 'Crazy' WomenRoyal Family news reveals that Meghan Markle is calling out a “How I Met Your Mother” in her new “Archetypes” podcast for stereotyping “crazy women.” Read on and we’ll give you the low down.

Royal Family News – Raise Your Hand If You’ve Been Called Crazy

Royal Family news reveals that, according to Metro UK, Markle has gone after more than one show for promoting the “crazy woman” narrative. “How I Met Your Mother” is one of them. In her latest Archetypes podcast, the 41-year-old Duchess of Sussex discussed how she and others have been called “hysterical” throughout the years in order to diminish the credibility of one woman or another.

Independent UK reports that the episode of “Archetypes” featuring guests Constance Wu, Jenny Slate, and Deepika Padukone, also called out the right-wing professor Jordan Peterson as well as another popular show, “Scrubs,” for pushing the stereotype. Markle introduced the episodes, saying, “Raise your hand if you’ve ever been called ‘crazy’ or ‘hysterical,’ ‘nuts,’ ‘out of your mind, ‘completely irrational.’

“If we were all in the same room and could see each other, I think it’d be pretty easy to see just how many of you out there have your hands up. By the way, me too.” The duchess played a series of clips in order to demonstrate “how prevalent” the “crazy” label is in popular culture.

Crazy Examples

In the episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” that Markle referred to, actor Neil Patrick Harris playing the character Barney says, “If she’s this crazy, she has to be this hot” (via MARCA). She also went after Professor Jordan Peterson for saying, “I don’t think that men can control crazy women.”

The third to be castigated was another American sitcom, Scrubs, where female doctor Elliot, played by Sarah Chalke, comments, “I can’t take it, Carla! I cannot hide the crazy a minute longer! I’m just this big mountain of coocoo is about to erupt and spew molten crazy, all over him and he’s gonna die like this.”

A Definition Created By A Man

Discussing the harm caused by calling people “crazy” or “hysterical,” Markle said, “Calling someone crazy or hysterical completely dismisses their experience and minimizes what they’re feeling.

“It keeps going to the point where anyone who’s been labeled it enough times can be gas-lit into thinking that they’re actually unwell or sometimes worse, to the point where real issues of all kinds get ignored. Well, that’s not happening today.”

Slate said, later in the podcast that the label of “hysteria and craziness” is “a definition created by a man. It is a definition meant to shame and limit a certain type of experience.” Be sure and stay up to speed on all royally related stories. Return here often for more Royal Family news and updates.
