Royal Family News – Decoding Crazy
Royal Family news reveals that, according to Harper’s Bazaar, the Duchess of Sussex opened up about her mental health issues since marrying Prince Harry on the latest episode of her “Archetypes” podcast. She also praised her husband for helping her through what she called a “dire strait.”
Joining the duchess for the episode, titled “The Decoding of Crazy,” were actress Constance Wu, comedian and writer Jenny Slate, and activist Bollywood star Deepika Padukone.
Meghan Markle – The Word Crazy Has Wrought Damage
Starting off, Meghan Markle said, “I feel pretty strongly about this word. This label: crazy — the way that it’s thrown around so casually and the damage it’s wrought on society, and women, frankly, everywhere — from relationships to families being shattered, reputations destroyed, and careers ruined.”
She explained that the stigma the world carried has a silencing effect. TODAY reports that the duchess said of it, “this effect where women experiencing real mental health issues, they get scared, they stay quiet, they internalize, and they repress for far too long.” The episode aired just a day after World Mental Health Day which fell on October 10.
Meghan Markle Stresses Need to be Really Honest
During the podcast, Meghan addressed her own struggles with mental health and the ensuing experience with the stigma that followed. She described how Prince Harry found her a mental health professional when she was reportedly at her “worst point.”
“I mean, I think at my worst point, being finally connected to someone that, you know, my husband had found a referral for me to call. And I called this woman,” she said, adding, “She didn’t know I was even calling her. And she was checking out at the grocery store. I could hear the little beep, beep, and I was like, ‘Hi,’ and I’m introducing myself and can literally hear her going, ‘Wait, sorry. I’m just. Who is this?’ Um, and saying I need help. And she could hear the dire state that I was in.”
She went on to add that she thought that it was imperative for people to be “really honest” about their needs and that they shouldn’t be afraid to ask for them to be met.
The Beginning of Meghan Markle’s Mental Health Journey
And though, in this podcast, Markle didn’t provide a lot more details about her own experience with mental illness, she had previously touched on the subject while giving her bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview. In that interview, the duchess spoke of the mental health issues she experienced after marrying the Duke of Sussex and taking on the duties of a working member of the Royal Family.
