Royal Family News: Now It’s Prince Charles Who Is Subject Of A Police Investigation

British royal family news shows that hours after it was announced that Prince Andrew had reached an out of court settlement with his accuser, his brother Charles, the Prince of Wales, made headlines due to his own issue with law enforcement.

According to sources, Prince Charles would be “happy” to help out with a new, “Metropolitan Police investigation into an alleged cash-for-honors scandal launched after he and a former close confidant were reported to officers over the claims,” according to the Victoria Harbor Times. A source said, “His Royal Highness is happy to help if asked. He has not been.”

It comes after the anti-monarchy group Republic made a formal complaint to the Met about Charles and his business associate Michael Fawcett last September. The formal request was made after media coverage alleging that a donor to The Prince’s Foundation (Fawcett was its chief executive) was offered assistance in securing a knighthood.

Last year Prince Charles went on the record via Clarence House to say that he had “no knowledge” of the alleged cash-for-honors scandal. On Wednesday, one day after Prince Andrew came to a cash settlement agreement with a woman accusing him of sexual assault, the Met announced, “there was just cause to launch an investigation into the affair.”

Fawcett resigned his post at The Prince’s Foundation after being implicated in, “promising to help Saudi billionaire donor Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz achieve British citizenship and a knighthood.”

The group Republic advocates for abolition of the monarchy. It contacted Scotland Yard and reported both Charles and Fawcett, who at one time was Prince Charles’ valet, “on suspicion of breaching the Honours (Prevention of Abuses) Act 1925.”

But, ex-Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker also contacted the Met asking for a criminal probe into the allegations made against Fawcett.

Prior to today’s news, Met commissioner Dame Cressida Dick stated she had no plans to investigate the matter; she resigned this week and the investigation is now live.

The matter came to light last fall when the Mail on Sunday published a letter from 2017 in which, “Fawcett reportedly wrote that he was willing to make an application to change businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz’s honorary CBE to a knighthood, and support his application for citizenship … in Fawcett’s then capacity as chief executive of the Dumfries House Trust, said the applications would be made in response to ‘the most recent and anticipated support’ of the trust.”

Mahfouz has reportedly made large donations large to projects of interest to Charles who denies any wrongdoing himself.
