Royal Family News: Palace Aides Want Camilla Upgraded To Queen, From Queen Consort

British royal family news divulges that it was far from certain that Camilla would become Queen Consort when her second husband, King Charles, ascended to the throne. Charles became King on September 8, upon the passing of his mother Elizabeth who ruled for 70 years.

Now comes news that palace aides may want to take things a step further, and have a change made to Camilla’s title. Keep reading to find out if this is a step backward or a step forward royal fans!

Royal Family News – Camilla Is Queen

King Charles’ coronation happens in May 2023. Are some insiders angling to get his wife’s title upgraded before then? Apparently there are those who are, “hoping to quietly drop ‘Consort’ from Queen Consort Camilla’s title.” Other Queen Consorts of include the Queen Mother, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra.

The Telegraph indicates that aides would be more than happy to drop ‘Consort’ from the title if there is public appetite to do so. A source told the outlet: “there is hope of a natural transition in which the public and the press begin adopting the simpler, shortened ‘Queen Camilla’ title. The decision will ultimately be dependent on how warmly the public accepts Camilla as she steps into her new role over the coming months.”

Queen Elizabeth declared at her Platinum Jubilee in February that she wanted Camilla to become Queen Consort when Charles acceded the throne. This came after speculation that the formerly accused “home wrecker” would be given a lesser title.

Royal Family News – How Will Camilla Be Addressed?

Charles and Camilla have been married 17 years and she has made nary a misstep in that time although there was a time when recognizing Camilla as its Queen gave the nation heartburn.

Now she is considered a popular, hardworking member of the Royal Family and it is hard to imagine Charles without her by his side. Her charity work includes literacy advocacy, and support of domestic and sexual abuse victims.

Royal Family News – Charles Is Now King

Her progression up the ranks of the Royal Family was incremental with attendance at the State Opening of Parliament and being given the title Counsellor of State which means she may represent the King on official matters when he is unavailable.

For her part, Camilla said was honored and touched after Queen Elizabeth requested she be called Queen Consort. Will her title once again change? Only time will tell.
