Royal Family News: Prince Andrew Is Off Social Media
Following the news that Prince Andrew would have to stand trial, on charges he has denied, the Queen took away his honorary military roles and he was forbidden to use his HRH title. The Standard reports that today it appears that Andrew, the Duke of York, has deleted his Twitter account, @TheDukeofYork. Anyone trying to access the account will see the message: “This account doesn’t exist.”
Prior to this development readers found these words: “The Official Twitter Account for The Duke of York. Tweets sent by HRH are signed – AY.”
Royal Family News: Andrew Has Gone Crickets On Social Media
Users can still locate Prince Andrew on the royal family’s account in the section, “Members of the Royal Family.” As the queen made clear, he is stripped of his monarchy privileges, but he remains a member of the family. Nonetheless, his previous listing of his now former military posts and patronages has been deleted.
These words now appear: “In January 2022, Buckingham Palace made a statement announcing that, with The Queen’s approval and agreement, The Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen, and The Duke will continue to not carry out public duties.”
Royal Family News: How Will Prince Andrew Communicate?
Users will see that Andrew’s official duties are listed in the past tense, including Trooping the Colour and his Diamond Jubilee tour to India on behalf of the monarch, in the section titled, “Supporting the Queen.”
For example, the website verbiage reads, “An important part of The Duke of York’s role was to support The Queen’s work as Head of State.” Additionally, the duke’s YouTube page is no longer accessible.
Andrew is being sued in a NYC courtroom by Virginia Giuffre. She claims that he sexually abused her three times when she was a minor and a sex trafficking victim of his friends, convicts Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. He has denied the allegation. Andrew lost his bid to have the case thrown out and the case is scheduled to be heard sometime in the fall.
