Royal Family News: Prince Charles Could Become A Tenant Of One Of His Sons

Prince CharlesBritish royal family news reveals that royal experts are already prognosticating on the changes that Prince Charles will make once he becomes king. He has made no overt mention of his plans but it is widely thought that he wants to trim down the monarchy in a cost cutting measure.

According to the Mail on Sunday, the Prince of Wales might have plans to decrease the overall size of the royal estate.

In effect it is reported that Prince Charles would be, “in a flat above a shop,” although a very elegant and expensive shop.

Royal Family News – Will Prince Charles Be A Landlord?

A source close to the family spilled that Charles wants to live simply not ostentatiously. To this end he could decrease the monarch’s living quarters at Buckingham Palace, sort of akin to having that area as a public viewing space and sleep upstairs.

There is thought that he also plans to make Balmoral Castle into a museum. But wait, there’s more! The chatty insider spilled that Charles wants to remain at his Gloucestershire home and not live at Windsor Castle. At the same time it’s been speculated that the Cambridge family might move there to be closer to the Queen.

Prince Charles And Prince William Are Father And Son

“Charles is not keen on Windsor because it is quite noisy,” the source said. “His view is that if he’s heading to Windsor, he may as well carry on to Highgrove in Gloucestershire.”

If this scenario transpires, “Charles may have to start paying his eldest son, Prince William, around £700,000 per year in rent,” according to Marie Claire. Why?

It’s because Highgrove House, located in the Cotswolds, is part of the Duchy of Cornwall estate and this estate was established in 1337 by Edward III.

Royal Family News – Will Prince Charles Pay Rent?

According to royal protocol, when Prince Charles ascends to the throne, “the title and the estate associated with the title, The Duchy of Cornwall, will automatically be inherited by Prince William.”

Thus, if and when Prince Charles remains at Highgrove House, he could have to pay his son a big fat rent check every month.

All of this is speculation at this point. It’s not certain that William will feel the need to make his father pay rent, nor if he does, how much Charles is on the hook for.
