Royal Family News: Prince Charles’ “Downton Abbey” Butler Spills Dirt On Camilla

British royal family news shows that when Prince Charles ascends the royal throne his second wife, Camilla, will become queen consort. Her status was far from a sure thing, with her role among the populace as a “home wreaker” threatening to overshadow her husband’s reign. However, in February Queen Elizabeth declared that Camilla would be given queen status, and from here on out no one is likely to publicly challenge the current monarch’s decree.

Now Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold, founder of the Royal School of Butlers, is splashing some gossip about the monarchy, in particular the view that the British public have of Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, 75.

Harrold worked for Charles for nearly a decade and witnessed several important royal events, including Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding. He was also present at Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s 60th wedding anniversary.
The former royal butler told Slingo: “I’m aware that there’s a real love-hate relationship when it comes to the future of the monarchy. With Prince Charles — the majority of people love him.”

Royal Family News – Does Everyone Love Charles?

He added that the citizens will accept Camilla as their queen when the time comes. “Those that said they couldn’t stand her, it’s now those same people who like her,” he said. “Time is a healer. She has proven herself and the Queen has given her that endorsement by supporting her and announcing she’s going to be queen consort.”

Harrold also addressed the 73-year old Charles’ reign. In contrast, his mother Queen Elizabeth, was crowned at the age of 27.

The royal insider stated, “They’ll do an amazing job, but I don’t know how long that will be for. I can’t see him passing the role on [to his son], but what I do think will happen — like the Queen has done — is Charles will pass more on to Prince William.”

Harrold spilled that working for the royals is, “like what you see in Downton Abbey, as the butlers are there to look after the family.”

“I had the opportunity to look after William and Kate [Middleton] and Prince Harry and that was fun, because not only did I get to know them on duty, but I got to know them off duty, too,” he said.

What does the insider think of Queen Elizabeth? Harrold gushed, “She would do something that was hysterical and nobody would laugh because they wouldn’t know if she was being funny or not. And you’d all look at each other like, ‘Did the Queen just make a joke?’”

“Eventually, somebody would laugh, and you’d all go [laughs]. She’s wonderful at that and that is something that I absolutely loved. Our queen has got a wicked sense of humor.”
