Prince Charles is a passionate fan of traditional craftsmanship as well as the protection of such art. That’s why he is the perfect choice to bemade patron of the 300th anniversary celebrations of Grinling Gibbons. Gibbons is considered to be the best woodcarver in British history.

Charles will have the role for one year during which time he will sponsor and support enterprises connected to the milestone event.

There is another reason that makes Charles the most suitable candidate for the role. That’s because Gibbons enjoyed the patronage of kings Charles II, James II and William III throughout his lifetime. That the next king of England is placed as Gibbon’s sponsor is especially fitting.
