Royal Family News: Prince Charles Faces Slavery Backlash

Royal Family News: Prince Charles Editorship Backfires, The Voice Wants Apology For SlaveryRoyal Family news reveals that after Prince Charles is asked to guest-edit for the Voice, it backfires. Now The Voice is demanding a royal apology for slavery. Read on and we’ll get into the specifics.

Royal Family News: Prince Charles’ Edit Sparks Backlash

Royal Family news reveals that, according to a well-placed source for The Independent, the backlash over Prince Charles’s guest edit was expected. The Prince of Wales was asked and agreed, to edit the September issue of The Voice.

After the paper ran, a torrent of criticism followed close behind. Now Britain’s only black national newspaper is calling for the Royal Family to apologize for slavery and offer up reparations.

A source for the newspaper is now saying that the publication knew of the potential for backlash but chose to move forward with the issue anyway.

Charles Touched By Edit Invitation

Charles reportedly quoted Reggae legend Bob Marley in his editor’s note. He went on to say that he was “so touched” at the invitation to edit for the publication and that he has always viewed Britain’s black communities as “a source of inspiration.”

Backlash came quickly as readers began to note omissions made by the prince in his letter such as slavery and reparations, royal exemptions from equality legislation, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s allegations of racism within the Royal Family, to name but a few.

Readers Express Anger, Confusion

One reader asked, “Is this some sort of joke?” while another exclaimed, “The Voice Newspaper is a disgrace for inviting Prince Charles to guest edit them.”

One reader of the outlet took to Twitter to say, “Hearing the reason why The Voice chose Prince Charles to be guest editor still leaves me with disappointment. Until the Royal Family acknowledge the part they played in the slave trade, take accountability, and pay reparations, we don’t need to hear from them in a Black newspaper.”

The Voice Responds to Criticisms

When approached on the matter, The Voice released a statement that said, “We recognize the strong feelings some of our readers have over this edition and the divergence of views in the community.

“We agreed to collaborate with The Prince of Wales after looking at the work he had done on race equality over 40 years and the parallels with our campaigning over the same period. The edition we published deals with important issues like reparations and black empowerment, told through the eyes of prominent and respected figures in the community.”

What About Reparations?

Regarding its call for apologies and reparations for slavery the outlet said that an apology and reparations for the slavery of Africans remain an obligation for “all institutions that were involved or gained from it.”

Can we slso expect an apology then from the Scandinavian countries for the viking invasion or the Italians for the Roman invasion or the French for Norman invasion at some point in Brittans history nearly everyone was subject to invasion and slavery. Norfolk in England is flat but has a castle in the middle built by the Normans with their Saxon slaves, their bodies left as they fell as part of the mound. How do we move forward if we want to hold the people of the present, who had nothing to do with the barbaric and un-evolved actions of morons from our past in judgment of time before they even existed. All any man or woman can be, King, Queen or ordinary person can be is accountable for their own decisions, actions and choices. If Charles was personally responsible for atrocities today then I would be the first to say he should be held accountable but to make him pay for the actions of someone who died before he was even born, someone who he never even had the opportunity to influence or question is ridiculous. We need to genuinely move on if we truly want an equal world and not keep dragging up the past which we cannot change. If we adhere to the train of thought that people should be held responsible for their families actions the law courts and jails then would be filled with the families of killers and criminals. Charles is responsible for his reign as King and not the actions of a monarchy or its parliament before his reign began.
