Royal Family News- Newspaper Crucial for Society
Royal Family news reveals that the Prince of Wales referred to the special 40th Anniversary Edition of The Voice as “crucial.” According to CNN, Charles said he was “so touched” at the invitation to guest-edit for the publication.
The British African-Caribbean newspaper was founded in 1982 and is currently the only national black newspaper in operation in the UK. The prince said, when asked to helm the very special edition, “Over the last four decades, with all the enormous changes that they have witnessed, Britain’s only surviving black newspaper has become an institution and a crucial part of the fabric of our society.”
Special Edition to Touch On Many Themes
BBC reports that, according to Clarence House, the edition will delve into several themes like “community cohesion, education, climate, the Commonwealth, faith and the arts.”

Scheduled to hit shelves on September 1, the special edition will feature and interviews with Lady Doreen Lawrence and Idris Elba. According to the Guardian, the 40th Anniversary edition also features interviews with Baroness Lawrence, mother of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence, who writes about the partnership between the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation and The Prince’s Foundation.
Voice Exec Editor Pleased At Prince Charles’s Involvement
In a one-on-one with Idris Elba the actor discusses what he calls the “life-changing” impact of a grant from the Prince’s Trust that he received at the age of 16. Also featuring, author Bernardine Evaristo, who was the first black woman to ever win the Booker prize.
Evaristo discusses her career and her role as president of the Royal Society of Literature and mentions her support for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room.
The Voice’s executive editor, Paulette Simpson, said: “The Voice is an integral part of the black community and has shared authentic stories of the lived experience of black people over the last four decades through their voices.

“We are pleased that through his involvement at this special time, the Prince of Wales acknowledges the role of The Voice in its efforts over the last 40 years to create a more inclusive society and highlights issues that he has supported.”
Prince Charles Brings Hope
The Voice editor Lester Holloway said, “Our readers may be surprised at the parallels between the issues which The Voice has campaigned on for four decades and the work the Prince of Wales has been involved in over the same period, often behind the scenes.
“In past decades these causes were once scorned and ridiculed, but today they are widely acknowledged,” adding that, “all the research tells us how far we have to go to be a truly equal society.
