Royal Family News: Prince Charles Has A New Botanical Gin He Helped Taste Test

British royal family news reports that Prince Charles of Wales has a new gig but traditionalists shouldn’t worry, he’s not quitting his day job. On top of launching a deluxe B&B in Scotland, the heir apparent is now in the liquor business. Britain’s bonny prince now has his own line of gin to boast about.

Prince Charles doesn’t just have any old run of the mill spirit, of course, his is in keeping with his environmentally conscious legacy.

Prince Charles Debuts A New Gin That Is Infused With Herbs From The Royal Garden

Prince Charles‘ foray into the booze business is a collaborative effort with Oxford Artisan Distillery. Charles’ gin label is distilled with herbs grown in the royal garden and is marketed as a botanical gin brand.

The Daily Mail reports that the 40-proof Highgrove Gin has the distinction of having some very elite ingredients. Master distiller Cory Mason told the outlet that the liquor contains organic grains pulled from the ground at the family’s Home Farm estate, and lavender, sage, and thyme from the flower beds at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire are harvested for inclusion as well.

Prince Charles Is Seeming To Be Getting Into The Hospitality Business

As any conscientious purveyor would do, Charles offered himself up as an official taste tester while the spirit was in production. His new venture passed the taste test after months of sampling and now gin lovers and royal fans can have a taste of the palace on their own tables.

A bottle of Charles’ gin bought from Fortnum & Mason is about $72 or £39.95. The liquid is described as coming with a “backbone of juniper and citrus and top notes of lemon verbena, thyme, and rosemary.”

The prince’s efforts are not a vanity effort as it were. It is said that all of the proceeds from the sale of his tonic are earmarked for his Prince of Wales’ Charitable Fund. The charity supports multiple causes including education, social inclusion, and wellbeing.

While Prince Charles’ journey into the wide world of liquor is ingenious it is not the first time that the royal family has gone there. When it comes to gin production Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth released an official Buckingham Palace gin earlier this year.

Like her son’s line, the gin boasts botanicals like hawthorn berries, bay leaves, and mulberry leaves specially plucked from the royal residence.
