Royal Family News: Prince Charles Must Explain Why He Took $3 Million In Bags Of Cash, UK Authorities Now InvestigatingBritish royal family news shows that Prince Charles’ camp is responding to allegations of misbehavior over his reported acceptance of over $3 million in cash from a Qatari sheik. Royals are allowed to accept certain gifts, but cash money does not appear to be covered in the rulebook. Let alone millions of dollars, some of which was reportedly stuffed into a suitcase and grocer’s bags.

Royal Family News – Is Charles In Charge?

Yesterday the Times of London spilled the beans that between 2011 and 2015, Charles was given the princely sum of €3 million, or around $3.1 million, all in fat bundles of cash. He allegedly took one bundle, around $1 million, that was, “stuffed into a suitcase.”

Apparently it is not in dispute that the donations were, “deposited into accounts of the Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF), which awards annual grants to a range of charities.”

The outlet names Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani as Charles’ benefactor and they note that one time Al Thani gave Charles what roughly $1.05 million, “stuffed into carrier bags from Fortnum & Mason, the luxury department store that has a royal charter to provide the prince’s groceries and tea.”

Royal Family News – What Does Charles Have to Say For Himself?

Clarence House denied any wrongdoing in a statement to Insider on Monday: “Charitable donations received from Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim were passed immediately to one of the Prince’s charities who carried out the appropriate governance and have assured us that all the correct processes were followed.”

But, “When it comes to cash donations, royal rules are vague.” And that could be Charles’ undoing.

Royal Family News – Will Charles Be In Hot Water?

According to the official royal website, gifts “are allowed” in the form of a check, “on behalf of a charity.” It appears that that is exactly what transpired between Charles and the sheik, but the issue in play concerns the fact that Charles accepted Benjamins.

The website goes on to say that royals, “should never accept gifts of money, or money equivalent, in connection with an official engagement or duty. If not capable of being returned, money should be donated directly to a charity nominated by the Member of The Royal Family.”

According to Insider, “A spokesperson for the Charity Commission, a UK government regulator stated that they are, “aware of reports about donations received by The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation. We will review the information to determine whether there is any role for the Commission in this matter.”
