British royal family news reveals that today Prince Charles stepped in for his mother Queen Elizabeth as he opened Parliament. The 96-year-old monarch watched on TV as he read the Queen’s Speech after she was unable to attend due to mobility issues. It is the first time in 59 years that she has missed the event. Next month she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee an event commemorating 70 years on the throne. After the queen watched Charles from Windsor Castle she kept her weekly call with Boris Johnson.
Prince Charles Filled In For The Queen
Before he announced Boris Johnson’s Bills for the coming year, the heir to the throne gazed at his mother’s crown which was carried in on a pillow.
Prince Charles’ stint represents a symbolic and historic moment for the British monarchy. Today the Prince of Wales came closer than ever to his role as king. He was placed in charge of addressing the House of Lords after doctors ordered the queen to miss the State Opening of Parliament.
History was made as his son Prince William and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall stood beside him. He gave the speech from the consort’s throne, once used by his father Prince Philip.
The Queen’s health issues continue to necessitate a slow but steady transition from Britain’s longest reigning monarch to her son and grandson.
Prince Charles Helps the Queen
Prince Charles said in his speech said that the Queen is looking forward to attending the June celebrations for her Platinum Jubilee. He addressed the matters at hand by saying that government ministers would ease the cost-of-living for families by opening up opportunity across the country.

The Queen Stayed Home
This is the first time a member of the Royal Family has delivered the Queen’s Speech on her behalf. Before he began the speech Charles looked at his mother’s Imperial State Crown. It represents British sovereign power and authority and was carried to Westminster in a limousine with Britain’s Crown Jeweller where it was placed on a table in front of Charles. Prince William arrived at his first ever State Opening of Parliament minutes before his father and the future kings were given power to act on Her Majesty’s behalf.
