Charles turned 72-years old just days ago and the clock is running down on the number of years he can expect to be King of England. He is next in line but his mother, Queen Elizabeth shows no signs of stopping at 94-years young.
In recent days there had been much speculation that Her Majesty planned to step aside and let Charles take over the reins. But palace aides swiftly squashed that rumor saying that no such plan was in place.
Will Prince Charles Step Aside And Give William The Throne Rather Than ascend It Himself?
According to royal expert Robert Lacey, the Prince of Wales will never step aside and forfeit his shot at glory for his 38-year-old son. Lacey explained on “Good Morning Britain” that Prince Charles will be the oldest King to ever be crowned and he is also the longest-serving heir-apparent to the British throne.
Queen Elizabeth, herself has the distinction of being the longest-serving monarch in history.
Lacey stated, “There is such loyalty and respect for the Queen [that] when we look to the future and say, ‘Who could duplicate that in the future,’ could it be King Charles and Queen Camilla? Or would it much better be William and Kate, who are already the focus of enormous popularity and are clearly stepping into the role old, Prince Charles is next in line to be the King of England, and has no plans to turn the title over to his eldest son, Prince William, of the future sovereign?”

He added, “I myself don’t think [Charles] would willingly step down from the destiny he has waited [for] for so long.”
There Has Been Much, Speculation That Prince Charles Will Step Aside To Allow His Son Prince William To Ascend The Throne
Lacey wrote what is considered to be the definitive biography of Queen Elizabeth and his book Battle of Brothers recently debuted. The title refers to the reported estrangement between Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry but it also takes a broad look at the monarchy itself.
Lacey is also a historical consultant on the Netflix drama, “The Crown.” According to him, he has made a point to ensure that Charles is accurately portrayed: “We made a great effort — I’m only the historical consultant in a huge team on ‘The Crown’ — but we made a huge effort to understand Charles and where he was coming from.”
