He continues, “As I speak, the last generation of living witnesses is tragically passing from this world, so the task of bearing witness falls to us.”

Royal Family News – Prince Charles Is The Patron Of The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust
He spoke on a day that commemorates a period of time in which 11 million victims, including six million Jews, were tortured and killed in Nazi death camps.
At 8pm Wednesday’s landmarks across Britain, including Wembley Stadium, Cardiff Castle and the Tyne Bridge, will be lit in purple light, and a traditional remembrance ceremony will be held virtually beginning at 7pm.

Residents are encouraged to participate by lighting a candle in their window at the end of the hour-long event which will feature speeches from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Premier League footballers Jordan Henderson and Bruno Fernandes, and religious leaders.
Royal Family News – Holocaust Memorial Day Is Today
The theme of this year’s event is, “being the light in the darkness.” It was chosen 18 months ago, but in light of the global coronavirus pandemic it has taken on added significance.
Prince William and Kate Middleton the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted to Instagram to mark the solemn day.

Royal Family News – Landmarks Across Britain Will Be Lit In Purple Light
They added, “Later today we will share a special conversation between The Duchess and Holocaust survivors Zigi Shipper and Manfred Goldberg, who The Duke and Duchess met at Stutthof in 2017, and youth ambassadors from the Holocaust Educational Trust.”
“As young boys, Zigi and Manfred both spent time in ghettos and a number of labour and concentration camps, including Stutthof in Poland where they met for the first time in 1944, and remain friends to this day.”
“Of the 110,000 men, women and children who were imprisoned in the camp during the Holocaust, as many as 65,000 lost their lives – including 28,000 Jews.”
