The children are still rather young for such an ambitious hobby, but the Queen herself began riding horses at four-years of age.
The siblings have had plenty of time to polish their skills while remaining in isolation at their country home, Anmer Hall, during lockdown.
The lockdown is expected to ease this summer at which time the kids can spend time with Her Majesty, who they call ‘Gan Gan.’ She has already been made aware of their progress and is looking forward to spending time in the open air on rides with them.
Royal Family News – The Cambridge Children Are Learning Equestrian Skills
It has been reported that George has had riding lessons on a Shetland pony belonging to Prince William’s cousin Zara Tindall. Zara is an Olympic equestrian event medalist. Prince William learned to ride after being given a Shetland called Smokey at age four.
Princess Charlotte began her riding lessons at under two years old. Her proud mom told triple-gold equestrian medalist Natasha Baker that she might one day be in the Olympics.
Baker said, “I asked her how the children were, and she said Charlotte is really enjoying her riding which is great to hear, and I said we may see her here on a line-up in 20 years time.”
“She emphasized that Charlotte has this passion about horses and although she doesn’t echo it, she’ll do her best to champion and encourage it.”
