Royal Family News – Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Awarded For ‘Moral Courage’

Royal Family news reveals that, according to PEOPLE, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to be given the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award next month, for taking a stand against “structural racism.” Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy, who is also a human rights activist, recently explained why the royal couple is receiving the award.

Kennedy said, in a recent interview with El Confidencial’s Vanitatis, that Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, personified the “moral courage” in the fight against injustice that her father Robert Kennedy spoke of in his historic Ripple of Hope speech given at the University of Cape Town in South Africa more than 50 years ago.

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Go After Royal Power Structure

When my father went to South Africa in 1966, he spoke in front of a white audience and said that the problem in this generation is talking about racial justice. He also spoke of moral courage, saying that few would have the courage to question their colleagues, family, and their community about the power structure they maintained,” Kerry Kennedy said to the Spanish language news outlet, adding, “and this is what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have done.”

“They went to the oldest institution in U.K. history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health,” she continued.

“They knew that if they did this there would be consequences, that they would be ostracized, they would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it. They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn’t live with themselves if they didn’t question this authority. I think they have been heroic in taking this step.”

Other Ripple Of Hope Recipients

The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization announced in October that the duke and duchess were this year’s Ripple of Hope recipients for their work in racial justice, mental health as well as other socially impactful actions via their Archewell Foundation (via Daily Beast).
