Royal Family News: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Welcomed a Daughter, Lilibet

British royal family news reveals the happy news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their second child on Friday. Their daughter is named Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, after the family nickname for the Queen and Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.

Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40am at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. She weighed 7lb 11oz, and it was announced today that she is at home with her family.

Lili is the little sister to two-year-old brother Archie and she is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild.

Royal Family News: The Sussex’s Have Welcomed Their Daughter

Experts have been speculating on the child’s name since it was announced during an Oprah Winfrey tell-all that the couple were expecting a girl. Many royal watchers expected that the couple would honor Diana and a few speculated that the child may also receive a name to honor her great grandmother Queen Elizabeth, the world’s longest reigning monarch.

It was in that infamous Oprah mud fest that the couple not only announced their second child’s gender but also trashed his family in what has become a blot on their reputation for fairness, sympathy and other positive words.

Royal Family News: The Sussex’s Have a Daughter Named Lili

Meghan and Harry posted to their Archewell website today: “On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Their PR doc also got in on the action releasing this statement: “It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world. Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11.40am in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She weighed 7lbs 11oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home.”

Royal Family News: Who is Lili Named After?

Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, honors her late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman issued this statement: “The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
