Royal Family News: Prince Harry Says UK Media Created A Smear Campaign Against Meghan Markle

British royal family news reveals that Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex is holding onto his version of events and he’s sticking to it. In the documentary he co-produced with Oprah Winfrey, The Me You Can’t See, it’s clear Harry isn’t ready to mend fences with his family.

The Apple TV docuseries premiered Friday and in it, he doubles down on his story about his wife, Meghan Markle, being, “the victim of a coordinated smear campaign by the royal family and the UK media in the week before their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey aired,” to the Daily Mail.

He dug in further by saying, that the UK media are, “trying to control the narrative because they know that if they lose it, then the truth will come out.”

Royal Family News – Is Meghan A Bully?

Meghan has been accused of many things during her short, failed stint as a princess. For starters, she is currently the object of a formal investigation alleging she bullied palace staff.

But according to Harry, “because of the headlines and that combined effort of the firm and the media to smear her, I was woken in the middle of the night to [Meghan] crying in her pillow because she doesn’t want to wake me up — because I’m already carrying too much.”

“That’s heartbreaking,” he said. “I held her. We talked. She cried, and she cried, and she cried.”

According to BuzzFeed News Harry’s insinuation, “the combined effort of the firm and the media to smear her,” was referencing stories in the Times alleging that Meghan had bullied her staff AND that she wore earrings given to her by Saudi Prince Mohammed bin Salman despite knowing about media allegations he was involved in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

These stories ignited a furor in the UK media, but Harry’s response was there is a “smear campaign,” in play.

After the publication of the bullying stories, Buckingham Palace announced that it was, “very concerned,” about the reports and would investigate, “the circumstances outlined in the article.”

Royal Family News – Did Meghan Markle Bully Palace Staff?

Even though the Times reported that royal staffers came forward, “because they felt that only a partial version had emerged of Meghan’s two years as a working member of the royal family and they wished to tell their side,” the Markle spin team hit back hard: “Let’s just call this what it is — a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation. We are disappointed to see this defamatory portrayal of the Duchess of Sussex given credibility by a media outlet. It’s no coincidence that distorted several-year-old accusations aimed at undermining the duchess are being briefed to the British media shortly before she and the duke are due to speak openly and honestly about their experience of recent years.”

They ended by trotting the Markle party line: “She is determined to continue her work building compassion around the world and will keep striving to set an example for doing what is right and doing what is good.”
