British royal family news divulges that Prince William and Kate Middleton were joined by his cousin Zara Tindall and her husband Mike at the family’s traditional Easter Sunday service. Their children George and Charlotte were with them and it is believed that the Queen marked the occasion at a small chapel within Windsor Castle.

Charles, Camilla, William and Kate all were expected to attend the service but the Queen was absent. On Wednesday she and Charles had a shock visit from royal runaways Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, when they stopped by on their way to the Invictus Games in the Netherlands.

The Royal Family Attended Easter Service

The Queen’s absence was not unexpected as a source spilled to The Mail on Sunday that going forward the queen will not attend public events unless an announcement is made beforehand. Thus the public should assuming she will not be at an event unless informed otherwise.

According to royal watcher Angela Levin, this turnabout is down to the family being “cautious” with the ahead of the Platinum Jubilee in June.

Levin told Sky News, “I don’t know how difficult it is to get in and out of the Chapel at Windsor Palace but she does have her own very small chapel within Windsor Castle and I suspect she will go there.”

The Queen Has Scaled Back Events

She added, “’I can’t imagine that she will miss saying her prayers and feeling that it actually is Easter Sunday. I think that’s what she’s going to do but I think it’s more of a worry that it’s now been announced that we won’t know if she’s going to attend anything until on the day so that shows how much her health goes up and down.”

Late last year the queen, who celebrates her 96th birthday this week, was hospitalized overnight for an undisclosed ailment. In February she contracted coronavirus. In between her health has seemed to deteriorate, as evidenced by multiple cancelled appearances and her use of a cane due to mobility issues.

For months now Buckingham Palace has issued several last-minute announcements, “That the Queen has ‘regretfully’ pulled out of engagements due to mobility issues. Under a new strategy, aides will now confirm her attendance only on the day of an event.”

A source told The Mail on Sunday, “The assumption must now be that the Queen will not be present at events. If Her Majesty does attend, it will be decided on the day and she will be accompanied by another member of the Royal Family.”
