British royal family news reveals that Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are taking their roles as future rulers seriously. They are already taking steps to ensure the monarchy survives despite the efforts of Prince Harry and Prince Andrew to topple the regal institution that has stood for centuries.

Their efforts come at a time when the monarchy is under siege by a public perception of it being stodgy and out of touch. It doesn’t help that disgruntled Harry takes routine pot shots at his family nor that Andrew is facing a sexual assault court case.

Throughout the year the pair have made an effort to freshen up their image and come across as likable and relatable. In the past the monarchy has eschewed popularity in favor of pomp and circumstance but the couple seem to understand that the former is just as important as the latter in selling the monarchy to all generations.

Royal watcher Dickie Arbiter pointed to Kate’s hosting of a recent Christmas carol service as a prime example of their media savvy. He said, “It’s the third generation taking the lead – we’re living in a time, the Cambridge’s are the bridge within the monarchy.”

The carol service was said to be Kate’s idea but other senior royals were front and center as well, showing a united front for the concert which was presented as a gift to the nation.

Arbiter said, “Whether through their own charities, individuals, Zoom calls with nurses or health workers etc., this was a way of the family coming together to say thanks.”

A Recent Concert Was A National Gift

The carol service was designed to recognize everyone who has worked through the pandemic, doing exceptional work in the community ensuring the nation’s safety. Kate’s parents and siblings attended as did the Sophie the Countess of Wessex, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall.

“It was very much the Duchess of Cambridge’s initiative, who works very closely together with the Duke,” concluded Arbiter. It appears the monarchy is now in good hands.
