Royal Family News – Prince William and Kate’s Foundation

Royal Family news reveals, via Town & Country, that the Prince and Princess of Wales are making it clear that the causes they want to champion in their newly minted royal roles via public engagements they are participating in. And, apparently, the royal couple has given some insight into a new way of carrying out their royal duties with an emphasis on leaving a lasting legacy.

The Prince and Princess’s Royal Foundation announced today that it will be donating $385,316 (£345,000) to organizations in Scarborough that work to help young people with mental health issues (via BBC).

Young People Pave The Way

This comes as the Prince and Princess of Wales spent the day in the seaside town of Scarborough in North Yorkshire where many live in deprivation. Kensington Palace said that the funds were a result of “generous donations from local individuals and organizations keen to make a difference.” The funds will go to assist groups who are intervening in young lives early to treat and even prevent mental health issues.

Will and Kate spent today at the community hub – The Street – and met with a panel of youngsters who’re helping to decide where the funding goes. According to Town & Country, the royal couple met with three different organizations that will receive funds as a result of the initiative: Gallows Close Centre, Sidewalk Youth Project, and Flash Company Arts.

According to a source close to the matter, today’s visits have shown that at least 33.3 percent of Scarborough’s residents live in areas with high levels of deprivation.

After the tour was finished the prince spoke on it, saying, “I think, particularly on the mental health side of things, tackling that stigma, talking about mental health, and providing services throughout the community are crucial to how we go forwards and deal with mental health issues that many, many people face.

“Showing what can be done when a community comes together collaboratively is really something we’d like to follow on and be represented more widely across the country – you’re leading where I hope others will follow,” he added (via BBC).

Amanda Berry, chief executive of the royal foundation, said the royal couple was “extremely passionate” about ensuring that youngsters have access to the mental health resources that they need.
