Right now they are on a royal tour of the Caribbean, and it seems they have switched up their social media a bit by dropping their official titles from Instagram and writing posts in the first person.

Why the seemingly innocuous change? The switch up could have something to do with the rude and unwelcome approaches they have been subject to in Belize and Jamaica. Natives in Belize protested the couple before their arrival and a Jamaican beauty queen with political ambitions openly snubbed Kate when she tried to talk to her. What is going on here?
It’s been reported that the couple are attempting, “to drum up support for the monarchy ahead of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.” But the outlet also notes that some locals wish to distance themselves from the queen’s Commonwealth.

According to the outlet, royal tweets, “appear to be written by the couple themselves, with tweets in the last few days reading: “What a incredible day at Trench Town’, ‘Good morning! We’re looking forward to our first full day in Belize’ and ‘Catherine and I are delighted to be here in Belize at the beginning of our first official visit to the Caribbean.’”
In contrast, previous royal tour tweets were written in the third person, used the couple’s HRH titles or their Duke and Duchess titles rather than their first names.
Prince William And Kate Are Relaxed Tweeters
Their recent tweets are more informal and use exclamation marks and more emojis whereas this was a tweet from November: “This evening The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall for a #COP26 reception, which saw Her Majesty The Queen address the assembled delegates via a recorded message.”
Today the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down in Jamaica and felt the love as they were met with chants of, “we love you, we love you.” Crowds followed them about as they visited Trench Town and Bob Marley’s former home. Smiley face emoji.
